Creative Exploration Challenge - Week #3 - Glazing

Well Peeps - what a week!

I had a great time with this weeks project.  This week was working with glazes - and using it to create altered book art.  I am so glad I took this challenge for myself this year - working on altered book art is something I always wanted to do but just never stepped out of the box to do it.

I really had fun working on this - one week of playing probably was not enough time.  I can see me adding to this project as I come across other items.

Working with the glaze was fun - it provided great light colors.  I used yellow ochre and sea foam for glazes.  For the black paint I used acrylic black with the Golden Acrylic Flow Release.

Ok so friends who do or have done altered book art - one question?  What do you do with yours when you are done?  Close the book - put on the shelf, display or make a digital copy?

So on a personal note - Total Bummer and Awesomeness for the week!

Total bummer - my laptop bit the dust! I mean I lost almost everything  - thank goodness I am good at backing up files.  So last week and most of this week I relied on my IPhone to keep me connected!

Awesomeness - lets see there is always so much to be thankful for but this week - ok totally awesome I found out Titanic is coming back to theaters in 3D! Sweet!

more awesomeness - I got my laptop back and I had a blast getting into a routine and getting my behind creating again.  I am working on two pieces on the side while I am doing the challenge and I am excited about how they are coming along! Here's to another great week! Thank you for stopping by - dayleanne

  1. Hi Dayleanne! Thanks so much for stopping in to see me! So those glazes look like fun! I haven't made altered books yet, but I do make books! My problem is that once I make a book, I can't bear to part with it! I get so attached! I like the idea of the altered book you are doing as well. Do you gesso the pages before? tear some out to allow for more bulk?

    1. Thank you so much Kelly. No I did not gesso before I started. I am folling a book with 52 challenges and the lesson had me start out with covering with the first glaze prior to adding additional elements. I really liked using the glaze it was light and let the pages still come though. I like the idea of taking out some pages - I think I will do that. Thanks so much -

  2. Altered books were my first steps into the multi-media world and they are still one of my favorites. I have my books on my shelves with all of my other art journals. Glad to hear that your pc is working again...it's so hard to not have it...what on earth did we do before them...lol Hope you have a wonderful week, fondly, Roberta

  4. This challenge looks very intriguing. I myself have not worked with glazes yet, but I love the effect - I have done several altered books...they are some of my favorite works - I was working on books I could leave in the waiting room of the counseling office and as clients looked through them, they could be prompted to think about issues to work through and how to approach the process...I'm looking forward to next week's prompt now!

  5. Oh man... good thing you back up files! Glad to hear you got it back! I have not used glazes. They look like fun though. Do they work differently than watered down paint?

  6. Sorry about your computer! Our home computer crashed last month and I freaked out - even with an external hard drive. Glad everything worked out! I really want to try altering a book. I think I have to give it a try this year for sure! :)
